FIELD MEETING: THINKING COLLECTIONS – Bio & Synopsis

Naiza Khan (London & Karachi)

Set in a Moment Yet Still Moving

Performative Talk

A performance punctuating Khan’s series of field notes since 2007, that encapsulate her decade-long transversals by foot across Manora Island, the urban landscape of Karachi, and its maritime history. Exploring the material culture of the island and the city, the performance proliferates her vast archive of images, objects and textual observations to reimagine the everyday violence of postcolonial globalization, and to rethink the continuities and disjuncture between different terrains and their entanglements. Taking a cue from the focus of FIELD MEETING: Thinking Collections in Dubai, Kahn expands her notes to further extend conceptually the geography of her walking as a wider resonance in the context of the pressing contemporary issues impacting much of the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia.

Naiza Khan’s FIELD MEETING participation is supported by Alserkal Avenue (Dubai).
